VALVE OF HIGH RESOUJTION ULTRASONGRAPHY IN THE ASSESSMENT OF CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME

Neveen Abdel Latif Fahmy;

Abstract

CTS was first discriped in mid 1800s by sir James Pagels .

It is defined as a spectrum of disease involving the hand and wrist originating from problems related to median nerve .
CTS may be idiopathic or occur 2ry to group of illness and

conditions .

For diagnosis of CTS, history taking, physical examination and

EMG are involved .

Doohi Lee et al. claimed that ultrasonot,rraphy can cleary illustrate and define normal and abnormal characterestic of median nerve in relation to carpal tunnel .
This study was aimed to conduct the new technolot,>y of high resolution U.S to detect pathoanatomical causes of CTS and its possible role in assessment of the disease .
The study included 40 hands diagnosed clinically to have CTS

and another 10 normal hands as control group .

All patients and controls underwent nerve conduction studies for median nerve and ultrasonography of carpal tunnel and median nerve using high frequency linear array transducer ( 7.5 MHZ ).
