Effect of topical application of Nano retinol on mild to moderate acne vulgaris
Sally Sobhy Abd Elaziz;
Abstract
Acne vulgaris is a common skin condition with substantial cutaneous and psychologic disease burden. It is most common in adolescents, affecting approximately 85% of teenagers but can also continue to adult life. Four processes have a pivotal role in the formation of acne lesions: Alteration of the keratinization process leading to comedones. Increased and altered sebum production, follicular colonization by P. acnes and inflammatory mediators released into the skin.
Topical retinoids are versatile agents in the treatment of acne. They pre¬vent the formation and reduce the number of comedones, making them useful against non-inflammatory lesions also, they possess anti-inflammatory proper¬ties, making them useful in the treatment of inflammatory lesions. Topical retinoids are often associated with local adverse events such as dryness, peeling and burning. These adverse events lead to lack of compliance and often necessitate discontinuation of treatment in some patients.
