Recent Trends in Management of Acute Diverticular Disease
El-Hussein Elsayed Mohamed;
Abstract
Diverticular disease is still representing a great
challenge for both patient and surgeon with increased
berdin on health care resources. However, agreat advances
have been achieved over the last few years in the way of its
management shifting the whole paradigm towards
minimally invasive procedures leading to decrease both
morbidity and mortality.
This major shift in the way of management was
achieved through the progress of imaging modalities
including both conventional radiology (CT scan and
nuclear imaging) and minimally invasive surgery.
All of these enable us to move from classic
procedures (e.g. Hartmans procedure) with known high risk
of complications and poor quality of life to minimally
invasive procedures with low risk of complications and
better quality of life.
