PRIMARY SURVEY OF BLUNT ABDOMINAL, TRAUMA
Hosam ElDin Mohamed Sultan;
Abstract
Abdominal trauma may result in a variety of intra-abdominal and retroperitoneal injuries ranging in severity from innocuous to life
threatening. Presently, most of trauma centers all over the world rely upon physical examination, DPL, abdominal US and CT scan. physical examination is often unreliable in detecting hemoperitoneum, especially in patients with altered mental status or spinal cord injury.
DPL introduce by Root et a/., (1965) resulted much improved diagnostic accuracy and has been extensively validated. Although the high sensitivity of DPL for detecting intra-abdominal bleeding is well established, debate continues conceming the ability of DPL to distinguish injuries that require surgical conection from those that do not. The ultrasonographic examination can be perfonned in hemodynamically stable patients with BAT because of it is as a screening method especially in cases of multiple trauma which need for imaging modalities that provide rapid diagnosis of abdominal injury but can also be used repeatedly with a high reliability to follow a patient's course.
