STUDY OF THE AETIOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT OF LUMBO – SACRAL SPONDYLOLISTHESIS

Abstract
Spondylolisthesis, was first described by the Belgain obstertrician Herbiniaux , in 1782. It is defined as the forward displacement of one vertebra over the vertebra below.
It is classified into dysplastic, isthmic, degenerative, traumati\= and pathological., being the isthmic type is the most common type.
Tewenty patients included in this study with 70 % of the patient were female and 30% were males. Patients' ages ranged from 30 to 65 years with the mean age of 43 years.Most patients were housewives (55%), and heavy workers (35% ).
Significant back trauma was present only in 30 % of the studied cases . L.B.P. , as an indicator of instability, was the main presenting symptoms of 100 % of the studied case, as it reflects the degree of hypermobility, it was accompanied by sciatica in 85% of the patients and only one patient presented with partial foot drop of the left side.
