"Impact of Reservoir Simulation on the Management of Hydrocarbon Potential in the Tight and Heterogeneous Kadanwari Gas Field, Pakistan"

SAID KAMAL FARAMAWY MOUSTAFA;

Abstract

Three tectonic events were responsible for the structural configuration
of the field. On the reservoir level, NNW – SSE trending major strike-slip faults
have dominantly dissected the field structure oriented NE-SW into several
compartments. These severe faulting and subsequent compartments raise the
key challenges in the development of the field.
The field is producing from the Lower Goru clastic reservoir of the Early
Cretaceous age. Lower Goru sands were deposited in a shoreline to estuarine
system and this led to rapidly varying reservoir characteristics. The trap was
formed by a stratigraphic pinch out to the NNE over an arch, the axis of which
plunged to the SSE.
The main purpose of the study is integrating the geophysical, geological
and engineering data for evaluating the gas potential, improving productivity,
predict the field production performances, and optimize the operational field
management and investment decisions. However, finding the solutions of the
field problems, like high reservoir heterogeneity, reservoir extension, reservoir
quality, compartmentalization, fault sealing, fluid contacts, seismic pull up, fault
shadow and exact definition, and porosity (PHIE) –permeability (K) relation
challenge.
