EVAlUATION OF SOFT ACRYLIC INTRAOCULAR LENSES

TAREK TAWFIK MOHAMED SOLIMAN;

Abstract

Acrylic intraocular lenses were implanted in 30 eyes of 30 patients, with an age related cataract, selected from the out patient clinics of Benha University Hospitals.
All cases underwent full ophthalmological examination preoperatively. Phacoenllllsification and AcrySof JOL (MA6013M) implantation was performed.

Evaluation and analysis of operative and postoperative findings were recorded. Cases were followed for up to 9 months.
Regarding operative results, IOL insertion was difficult in 27% of cases, mostly the early cases. The difficulty was mainly in introducing the trailing haptic into the bag. Also, folding was more difficult in lenses of high powers and those kept in cold temperature. Posterior capsular tear occurred in 2 cases, and it was possible to put the lens in the sulcus with good postoperative centration and stability.
The postoperative inflammatory reaction was very mild.

5 cases showed linear marks on the optic surface. These were off axis and did not affect visual performance.
Posterior capsule opacification did r.ot develop in any case of the study group during the follow up period.
