HIGHLIGHT ON GASTROINTESTINAL TUMORS

Abstract

Solid tumors of the gastrointestinal tract include colorectal, gastric, pancreatic, and hepatic cancers, among numerous others.Gastrointestinal cancers remain one of the main causes of death in developed countries. The main obstacles to combating these diseases are the limitations of current diagnostic techniques and the low stability, availability, and/or specificity of pharmacological treatment.Despite advances in the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal tumors, their poor prognosis, especially at advanced stages, has led to a demand for novel strategies to improve the response to treatment and permit earlier detection.The aim of this essay is to review the recent advances in gastrointestinal tumors and to highlight the current concepts for their prevention, screening, early diagnosis, staging and therapeutic regimens.
