Abstract

Introduction: Medical Laboratory workersare exposed to many physicalergonomicriskfactorsandergonomicstressorsduringroutine laboratory work that may result in formation of work related musculoskeletal disorders and affect qualityin work environment. Objective:Theaimofthisstudyistoidentifythedifferentphysical ergonomicsriskfactorsthatworkersmaybeexposedtotheminmedical laboratories, associationwithlaboratoryergonomicstressors, occurrence ofworkrelatedmusculoskeletaldisordersandassesseffectsonquality in medical laboratories.
Subjectsandmethods:ThisstudyisDescriptivecross-sectionalstudy for 80workers in medicalforensiclaboratoriesinCairo. The collected data fromdesigned Questionnaire, clinical examination and investigations wereprocessed and analyzed.
Results: Neckand upperextremitymusculoskeletal disorderswere found among 42.5%ofthesamplesize,relatedtoage,workperiod,awkward body positionwithnonergonomicchairandcontactstress.Back musculoskeletaldisorderswere foundamong31.3%ofthesamplesize, relatedtoworkperiod, staticpostureduetoinsufficientleg roomand awkwardbody positionwithnonergonomicchair.Lowerlimbs musculoskeletaldisorderrelatedtoheight, weight, staticposturedueto insufficientleg roomandnolabbenchanti-fatiguemat.Laboratory workershave littleawarenesswithergonomic principles. These factors decreasesafety, productivity andqualityoflifeinthelaboratorywork environment.
