ATIF TARA EL-NASHAR;

Abstract

The present experiments were carried out in Assiut Uni- versity, Experimental Farm in Nili seasons of 1990, 1991 and
1992 to study the effect of different seed tuber size and cultivars of potato on productivity of Nili plantation,

Sizes of seed tuber were: small (2,5-3.5 em), medium (3.5-4.5 em) and large (4.5-6.0 em). Four cultivars of potato namely Diamant, Spunta, Baraka and Mondial used in this study.

Results are summarized as follows:

1 - Size of seed tuber had significant effect on all stud- ied characters of potato.

2 - Planting large seed tuber significantly promoted perc- ent field emergence compared to small and medium sizes.

3 - Large seed tuber gave the tallest plants and increased number of stems and foliage weight per plant.

4 - Plant stand percentage increased with planting large seed tubers.

5 Large seed tuber caused significantly increase in numb- er of weight of tubers per hill, compared with small and medium sizes.
