Abstract
The gastrointestinal tract has generally been considered more of a problem -than an opportunity for sonographers. Gas in the Gl tract can obscure details of the bowel wall and lumen as well as structures deep to the bowel such as the pancreas and the peri-aortic area of the retro-peritoneum.
