Microbiological Studies For The Detection Of Irradiated Food

Abstract
Nadia Abd Elmonem Abd Elbary. Microbiological studies for the
detection of irradiated food. Ph.D. Botany Department, Women's
college, Ain shams university.
The exposure of food to iomzmg radiation is being
progressively used in many countries to inactivate food pathogens,
to eradicate pests, and to extend shelf life, thereby contributing to a
safer and more plentiful food supply. To ensure free consumer
choice, irradiated food will be labeled as such, and to enforce
labeling, analytical methods to detect the irradiation treatment in
the food product itself are desirable. In particular, there is a need for
simple and rapid screening methods for the control of irradiated
food.
This investigation has been carried out in an effort to design
reliable methods for detecting whether or not a food has been
irradiated. Attempts have been made to apply microbiological and
biological form measurement.
