PERFORMANCE OF OSSIMI LAMBS UNDER DIFFERENT MANAGERIAL SYSTEMS DURING FATTENING PERIOD
AHMED MOHAMMED ABD ALLAH;
Abstract
The present study was compartmentalized into two mam comportment. They were performed in the farm of Animal and Poultry Production Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Assuit University during the period from April1999 to January 2000.
The frrst compartment concerned with the effect of photoperiod either long (16 hr L: 16 hr Dark) or short (8 hr L: 16 hr D) and housing system {individual pens or pen grouped lambs)on lambs feed intake water consumption, body weight, daily gain, feed conversion ratios and concentration of glucose, urea-Nor cortisol in blood.
The second compartment qualified the combination effects of feeding system (ad libitum or restricted feeding) with the different frequencies of .feeding (once, twice or thrice) on lambs growth performance and the concentration of glucose or urea-N in blood.
I. First experiment.
Twenty-four Ossimi lambs of 9 months of age and weighing 39kg. Lambs were assigned to 2x2 factorial design. Each 12 Iambs subjected to either long (16L: 8D) or short (8L: 16D) photoperiods individually or group housed systems. The four groups were fed bean straw and concentrate mixture diets on ad libitum basis. Feed intake and water consumption were recorded daily. Animals were weighed weekly and blood samples were collected biweekly in order to evaluate glucose, urea N and cortisol concentrations.
