Effect of Different Sealers on Microhardness and Fracture Resistance of Root Canal Dentin (An In Vitro study)

SAYED MOHAMED GHONIM;

Abstract

The loss of dentin creates an increased susceptibility to fracture, so use of obturating materials that strengthen the root and compensate for the weakening effect is mandatory. The standard filling material is gutta-percha to obtain a hermetic seal, gutta-percha is typically used in conjunction with root canal sealers because gutta-percha is incapable of bonding to root canal walls. Resin-based dental materials have been proposed as a means to reinforce endodontically treated teeth through the use of adhesive sealers in the root canal system. Therefore the purpose of this study was to evaluate the fracture resistance and microhardness of root canal dentine after obturation with four different root canal sealers (MTA Fillapex),(CRCs),(AH Plus),(Pulp Canal Seal EWT).
Hundred and twenty extracted human single rooted anterior teeth with straight, matured, examined under magnification were decoronated at cement-enamel junction. The all of the root canals were instrumented to apical size #F4 by rotary Ni-Ti ProTaper system using crown-down technique.The samples were classified into 4 groups (n=30) according to the sealer used:
Group I: consisted of 30 samples filled with gutta-percha and MTA Fillapex sealer.
Group II: consisted of 30 samples filled with gutta-percha and CRCs sealer.
