Abstract

The staging of primary malignant bone and soft tissue tumors requires adherence to staging system. Computed tomography is most sensitive in depicting cortical erosions and calcified periosteal reactions. Magnetic resonance tomography is the method of choice for the staging of intra- and extramedullary tumor extension, for the differentiation of neighboring compartments, and in the detection of invasion of the regional neurovascular bundle after administration of contrast agents, the mode of enhancement gives further information on the nature of the tumor to imaging relationship of tumors to surrounding like intra-osseous, extra-osseous extension with delineation the margins of tumors and delineation between tumors and surrounding structures including soft tissue, neurovascular bundle, joints which are almost importance for planning in treatments and follow up of primary musculoskeletal tumors.
. With consistent application of the staging criteria in preoperative imaging,

limb-saving therapy can be employed more often and the prognosis of the disease can be improved.
This study including the following points:

• Pathology of primary musculoskeletal tumors.

• Classification of primary musculoskeletal tumors.

• Staging of primary musculoskeletal tumors.

• Radiological staging and evaluation primary musculoskeletal tumors.

• Conventional radiography of musculoskeletal tumors

• Role of Magnetic resonance imaging in evaluation of primary malignant musculoskeletal neoplasm.
• Role of CT in evaluation of primary malignant musculoskeletal
