Ahmed khairy Mohammed Mostafa;

Abstract

There is an increasing need for Liver transplantation worldwide and especially in Egypt due to a lot of factors ,the most important one is the increasing number of people infected with hepatitis C virus , therefore there should be a lot of centers qualified to host these operations.

However the increased need for transplantation operations shouldn't distract us from the safety of the healthy donor , the donors must understand the risks that they may face , and the benefits for the recipient and the outcome of the operation.

The most common problems are the biliary and vascular complications , other problems may occur as infection , hepatic dysfunction , wound infection , and problems that may affect long term quality of life.

Selection of donors is a complex procedure affected by medical , social ,psychological factors and the relationship between donor and the recipient .

Selection of the donor plays important role in decreasing postoperative complications.

All centers must have MRI , CT , ERCP as these are the cornerstone of diagnosis of most common complications and and very important in treating most of them .
