Summary:
ANSYS results are validated using experimental results available in the literature. The specimens were tested at different fire temperatures. The results from validation were used as inputs for studying the effect of changing column dimensions on the connection capacity, deflection and mode of failure at different temperatures. The effect of using CFRP strips to strengthen the column was also studied. The results showed that, when R.C connection is exposed to fire of temperature above 5000C, its capacity is greatly reduced. The use of CFRP strips enhances the behavior of the connection when exposed to fire. It was concluded also that, the moment of resistance of the column must be greater than that of the beam by at least 20% and the beam reinforcement must extend inside the column with sufficient anchorage length to reduce the fire effect on the connection.
