LAND MANAGEMENT STRATEGY FOR PERI-URBAN AREAS TOWARDS MANAGING THE CONFLICT BETWEEN URBANISATION AND AGRICULTURAL LAND PROTECTION

Abstract


The present thesis has been performed on studying Land Management Strategy for
Peri-Urban Area, achieving the following objectives;

D To develop a land management strategy with specific task to manage the conflict between urbanisation and agricultural land protection. The strategy is. complemented with general criteria for evaluating the land management policy instruments indicating the best policy instruments that could manage
•this conflict. These criteria will end with a matrix for evaluation the different
policy instruments that will be used to manage this conflict.


To reach the above goal, there are other secondary objectives as follows;
1. To compare the Egyptian NEAP in regard to the land management component with other international strategic environmental documents either at the national or the city level.
2. To analyse the current government actions towards banning development on agricultural land in order to prove that Egyptian government actions was indirectly leading to this problem with special reference to GCR
3. To analyse the Egyptian set of policy instruments practised to ban development on agricultural land.
4. To propose a new mixture of policy instruments, based on the evaluation
criteria, including both regulatory and economic instruments to mitigate the negative impact of urban development on agricultural land.
