Ahmed Mohamed Sharaf-Eldin;

Abstract

Laryngeal cancer is one of the most common types that affect the upper airway. It represents 25% of malignant tumors of the head and neck with male predominance.
The goals of treatment are tumor cure, voice preservations, and minimizing the risk of serious complications. Different types of procedures may be used, as transoral laser excision, radiotherapy (RT) or surgery (OPL, TLM and recently TORS) since the survival rates are almost equivalent (87-98%), treatment modality is usually decided on the basis of post treatment voice quality, treatment duration, cost, patient's general medical condition, the availability of the modality and patient's preference for surgery or radiation .
Most studies and reviews discussing modalities of treatment of early cancer larynx nowadays focus on the oncological and functional results of laser versus radiotherapy in treatment of T1, T2 cancer larynx. However not much studies have been made to compare the oncological and functional results of laser versus open partial laryngectomy in treatment of T1, T2 cancer larynx.

Aim of the study
To compare the oncological and functional results of laser and open partial laryngectomy in T1 and T2 glottic laryngeal cancer by doing a systematic review.
