Ahmed LotfyAL- Moghazy;

Abstract

Two field experiments were conducted on a clay soil at the Experimental Station Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, Tanta University at Kafr EI-Sheikh, Egypt, during 1996/97 and 1997/98 seasons to study the effect of some weed control treatments on growth, yield and quality of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L) cv. "Pieno" as well as weed control. The preceding crop was maize as forage crop in both seasons.

Fifteen weed control treatments were arranged in a randomized . complete block with four replications as follows:
1. Unweeded (Control)

2. Three hoeing (30, 45, 60 DAS*) +hand weeding (in all season)

3. Betanal post-em. (30 DAS*)+ I hoeing (60 DAS*)
• 4. Fusilade post-em. ( 30DAS*) + 1 hoeing ( 60 DAS*)
5. Pyramin pre-em.

6. Pyramin pre-em. + Fusilade post-em. ( 30DAS*)

7. Pyramin pre-em. + 1 hoeing ( 30 DAS*)

8. Pyradur pre-em.

9. Pyradur pre-em. + Fusilade post-em. ( 30 DAS*)

10. Pyradur pre-em. + I hoeing ( 30 DAS*)

11. Goltix pre-em.

12. Goltix pre-em. + 1 hoeing ( 30 DAS*)

13. Goltix pre-em.+ Fusilade post-em. ( 30 DAS*)
14. Pyracor pre-em.
15. Pyracor pre-em. + 1 hoeing ( 30 DAS*)

DAS* =days after sowing
