THE EFFECT OF USING A SUGGESTED PROGRAMME ON IMPROVING THE THE PRONUNCIATION OF PRIMARY EDUCATION STUDENT TEACHERS OF ENGLISH AT THE FACULTY OF EDUCATION ASSIUT UNIVERSITY

Abstract
The study aimed at improving the standard of pronunciation •of primary education student teachers of English through designing and• applying a suggested programme by the researcher.
The sample of the study consisted of forty 4th year students chosen
. '
randomly from the primary education English section at Assiut Faculty of • Education.
The instruments of the study were as follows :
- A suggested pronunciation programme.
- An oral test of pronunciation.
- A questionnaire for the student teachers.
., The research results indicated the existence of statistically significant differences between the two administrations of a pronunciation test in favour of the post one using the "t" test.
The main problems and weaknesses concluded out of the study was the insufficiency of the existing syllabuses to prepare primary education student teachers of English in a way that is appropriate to their future jobs, and the absence of a comprehensive applicable course m
pronunciation, besides the lack of oral practice in general during the students' preparation stage.
