RHEUMATIC MANIFESTATIONS OF HYPERLIPIDEMIA
MERVAT ISMAAIL ABD-EL AZEEM;
Abstract
The present study included I 00 patients with pnmary hyperlipidemia (either hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia or mixed) and 15 controls with normal lipid profile tests.
The studied patients were 82 males (82%) and 18 females ( 18%)
ranging in age from 30- 69 years with a mean age of 53.02 ± 8.59 years. The control group were I 0 males (66.6%) and 5 females (33 3%) with their ages ranged from 28- 65 with a mean age of 44.67 ± 10.89 years.
Hyperlipidemic patients were subdivided into 5 groups:
Type l included 5 patients (5%), Type 11 included 46 patients (46%), type lJl included 9 patients (9%), type IV included 32 patients (32%) and Type V included 8 patients (8%).
Full history taking and through clinical examination according to
the following rheumatology sheet were performed for all patients and
controls.
For all patients and contTols, the following investigations were performed, laboratory investigations (complete blood picture, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, rheumatoid factor, anti-stTeptolysin o titre, blood sugar level, serum uric acid level, creatine phospho kinase, antinuclear antibody tests, full urine analysis, renal function tests, liver function tests), lipid profile analysis (cholesterol, triglyceride, lipoproteins as high-density lipoprotein, low density lipoproten, very low density I ipoproten , intermediate density lipoproten and chylomicrons) ,synovial iluid analysis for detection of cholesterol crystals , radiological investigations (plain x-ray were performed for affected Joints),
