Strain and Strain Rate Imaging in Assessing early Left Ventricular Function affection in Diabetic patient

Sherif Mohamed El-Mahmoudy;

Abstract

Tissue Doppler imaging was introduced as a new method of quantifying segmental and global LV function by measuring systolic and diastolic tissue velocities. Derivative of tissue Doppler imaging are strain and strain rate (SR) imaging are new methods for detection of segmental myocardial contraction or stretching
( Zabalgoitia, 2001).
The aim of this study was to analyze the profile of left ventricular wall deformation by strain and strain rate wave tissue Doppler parameters in diabetic patients, and its relationship with the left ventricular pump function parameters obtained by conventional echocardiography for early detection of diabetic cardiomyopathy.
In this study, 60 persons presented in Ain Shams University specialized Hospital in the period between February 2010 and February 2012. were divided into two groups: group (1): 30 diabetic patients with normal ejection fraction and normal coronaries, group (2): 30 individual without diabetes mellitus with normal ejection fraction as a control group. They were subjected to the following:
