Transesophageal Instrumentations In Relation To Anesthesia
Sherif Refaat Shawky Boulos;
Abstract
There are many transesophageal instruments related to anesthesia including Combitube, transesophageal echo- cardiography (TEE), gastric tonometry, esophageal stethoscope, esophageal electrocardiography (E-ECG), esophageal pacemaker, esophageal temperature probe and Ryle tube.
Combitube IS used mainly in cases of difficult or • emergency intubation like cardiac arrest. While the use of• traditional endotracheal tube needs the detection of correct placement by many methods specially fiberoptic confirmation and measurement of carbon dioxide in the expired air.
Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is a very important monitor for anesthesiologist during valve repair or . valve replacement as it demonstrates the hemodynamic state of the left ventricle, assessment of patients with suspected aortic injury or aneurysm, detect development of new segmental wall motion abnormalities post bypass, used in pediatric patients who undergo surgery for congenital heart disease correction
