Abstract
This is a prospective that was performed in Ain Shams University Hospitals, in the period between December 2013 and December 2016.
The study included 120 patients with secondary dystonia due to different etiologies. All of these patients were subjected to the proposed assessment protocol and evaluation for all patients was done in the scheduled post-operative visits.
Brain lesioning procedures were used in 20 patients with generalized dystonia; statistically significant changes in the physical and functional measures were noted in those patients throughout the follow up period.
Pallidotomy was the most common performed procedure in this study, while thalamotomy was performed alone in only two patients, and in companion with pallidotomy in other two patients.
Deep brain stimulation was performed in 20 patients with generalized secondary dystonia; there were no statistical significance of the changes in the physical or the functional scores throughout the follow up period despite the frequent change in the modes and stimulation parameters.
