Serum Level of Homocystiene in Patients with Extracranial versus Intracranial Arterial stenosis
Amal Ahmad Hussien Ahmad Helmy;
Abstract
t many community hospitals, it’s not easy or available to diagnose cranial arterial stenosis especially in asymptomatic patients, or it will be coasty and not easy to be available to the patient to have MRA or carotid duplex or CT Angiography especially in not highly suspected patients.
Our study represents one of the studies that could be rapid, available diagnostic tool for intracranial or extracranial carotid stenosis.
Our thesis include sixty ischemic stroke patients either admitted to the stroke unit or showing up in the outpatient clinics of Ain Shams University hospitals & police institution hospitals and they were matched with thirty healthy individuals matched in age and sex.
All the patients were subjected to full clinical history and examination, kidney function, lipid profile, Magnetic resonance angiography (MRA), CT Angiography, carotid duplex and echo.
A venous blood sample was taken and assayed for Homocystiene (Hcy) serum level and measured by ELISA kits.
We concluded from our thesis results that Hcy serum level could be used to discriminate between cases and controls at a cutoff level ≥16, with 43% sensitivity and 62% specificity. However there was no significant correlat
