IMMUNOLOCALIZATION OF CIRCULATING SCHISTOSOME ANTIGENS DURING DIFFERENT STAGES OF EXPERIMENTAL INFECTION

SOHEIR SAYED MOHAMED MAHMOUD;

Abstract

The main goals therefore, are early diagnosis of active schistosome infection as well as recognition of incriminated antigens in the pathogenesis of schistosomal disease.

To achieve these goals, the following methods were performed:

1- Localization of antigenic epitopes in different stages of the life cycle of Schistosoma mansoni in the intermediate and definitive hosts using anti-schistosomal IgM monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) prepared against S. mansoni soluble egg antigens (SEA).

2- Localization of schistosoma!antigens in different organs of experimental animals during the course of schistosomal murine infection with S. mansoni using the same monoclonal antibodies (MAbs).

3- Detection of circulating schistosomal antigens in sera of these animals during the course of schistosoma! murine infection.

Application of the innnunofluorescence technique using anti-schistosomal IgM monoclonal antibodies prepared against Schistosoma mansoni soluble egg antigens (SEA) proved the presence of antigen epitopes in the different stages of life cycle
of S. mansoni.
