Epidemiological Aspects in Agglutination Seropositive Brucellosis in Egyptian Patients: A Single Centre Study.

Abstract


The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiological aspects of brucellosis in Egyptian patients in terms of sociodemographic features and risk factors. To fulfill such purpose, we studied 69 patients with brucllosis.These patients were taken from Banha fever hospital during the period from January 2013 to August 2013. Sixty nine patients were accurately diagnosed by ELIZA, as we use it for the confirmation of human brucellosis. All patients were subjected to detailed history taking, clinical examination and laboratory investigations including CBC, ESR. Urine analysis, liver and kidney function tests, Slide agglutination test, ELIZA, abdominal ultrasound and bone X-ray if needed. The results of the current study showed that brucellosis commonly occurs during 2nd and 3rd decades, there was no difference in gender, house wives were more common in the studied cases and all patients were from rural areas. As regard socioeconomic variables, there was an association between having animals and brucellosis. Most of studied patients were having a fridge, all were having television and proper water supply, and however there was no sanitary sewage disposal system.
