Abstract


Carpal tunnel syndrome is the most common form of entrapment neuropathy. It is one of the most common causes of occupational absenteeism and disability. It is particularly prevalent in middle aged females.



This syndrome is characterized by nocturnal hand discomfort, numbness along the distribution of the median nerve in the hand, thenar atrophy with exacerbation during hard work or cold weather.



The present work was designed to evaluate the role of ultrasound in the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome.



To achieve this goal, the study was conducted on 2 groups of subjects:





Group A (study group): included thirty patients with proven CTS


according to clinical examination and nerve <;onduction studies





Group B (control group): included ten control subjects of matched age and sex with no history or clinical manifestation of CTS.
