PERFORMANCE OF GLOBE ARTICHOKE PLANTS DEVELOPED FROM TISSUE CULTURE UNDER LOW PLASTIC TUNNEL (Cynara scolymus L.)
SHADIA ABD-ELLA ISMAEEL;
Abstract
This study was carried out during the period of 1992 to 1995 to study the performance of globe artichoke plants derived from
I . .
tissue cUlture under low plastic tuimels. Regards to tissue culture
technique, it was clear that adding of 0.5, 1.0 and 2.5 mg/1 BA to
Ms_n\edium was effective in increasing the multiplication rate.
ConcLnt:tation of 3 % sUcrose hast ned the length alid humber of
. l
shoots more thali 2, 4 and 6%. Improvement of the vegetative growth
of shlx,ts was correlated with adding of o.oi, 0.50, 1.0, 2.5 and 10.0 lng/l]ol 2ip to MS_inedium and 40% of produced shoots were easily
tooted. The results concerning adenine sulfate and double layers systm showed that both of them improved the vegetative growth of globartichoke shoots. The best robting medium was MS containing
2 mg}l NAA + 0.5 g/1 animal charcoa!.lcclimatization stage was carried
but li different transplanting media. Results indicated that
l li . .
vermicu 'te either alone or in combination with other tested
I I
trarlsplantihg media gave the highest percentage of survived
transblants and enhanced plant hei ht, number of leaves; number of roots lid average of root length. .
ResUlts indicate that succ ssful program for producing healthy globe artichoke transplants through tissue culture could be carrid out b'y adding 2ip, adenine sulfate and using double layers inediuk to enhance the growth of shdots. Concerning rooting medium,
