Awareness about Early Detection of Women for Breast Cancer

Abstract


Breast cancer is a major threat to the health of women. Increasing age and a family history of breast cancer are considered major risk factors with unknown primary prevention. Early detection measures remain the main hope of decreasing mortality. The aim of the study was assess knowledge, and reported practice of breast cancer, increase public awareness about how to do breast self-examination and importance of women screening service for breast cancer for clients attending to outpatient clinic of Assuiot university (women health hospital) at Assuiot governorate. A total sample 456 clients enrolled in this study. Data were collected through an interviewing questionnaire for assessing the socio-demographic characteristic, medical history, obstetric history, breast risk factors and early detection awareness. A pilot study was done on 10% that was excluded from sample. The finding revealed a positive relation between knowledge about early detection of breast cancer and reported practice of methods about early detection of breast cancer that with increase of unsatisfactory knowledge, their increase of inadequate reported practice about early detection methods of breast cancer. The study was concluded that more than 90% of clients of this study had a deficit knowledge regarding breast cancer and about 91.2% of women of this study had unsatisfactory knowledge about method of prevention of breast cancer, nearly all (97%) of women of this study had inadequate reported practice of breast self-examination as a primary method of detecting lump. The study was recommend the need for developing services through the primary health care team for women has risk for breast cancer such as health education, women discussion classes, controlling stress and eliminating smoking, Implementing breast self-examination instruction, Implementing annual assessment of breast health by clinical breast examination and mammography, Involving more community health nurses knowledgeable on issue relating to breast cancer, It`s necessary to increase public awareness regarding breast cancer risk , precaution and how to make breast self-examination through mass media.
