Study of Neutrophil Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate Oxidase Activity and Neutrophil Extracellular Traps in Pediatric Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Sally Gouda Mohammed Mohammed;
Abstract
It has been reported that neutrophils undergo a distinct cell death mechanism called neutrophil extracellular traps (NETosis), which not only contributes to the host defense, but also leads to severe pathological immune responses in cases of dysregulation. NET release (NETosis) in part relies on the activity of the phagocyte NADPH oxidase (Nox2) in neutrophils.
This study aimed to assess level of NETs and dihydrorhodamine test (DHR) (as a measure of neutrophil Nox2 activity) in patients with pediatric systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The effect of both NETs and DHR test values on SLE clinical and laboratory features were assessed as well as the relation between level of NETs and DHR test values.
