Non-Surgical Treatment Protocols For Locally Confined Prostate Cancer
Hatem Wagih Ali;
Abstract
Prostate cancer has always been the aim for many
scientists and investigators for being the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men as well as the second leading cause of cancer death.
Epidemiology of prostate cancer is very important. It gives a clear idea about the distribution of the disease between different age group, races countries and also the incidence rates as well as the mortality rates. This knowledge IS very important tn disease screemng, diagnosis, and control.
Although the multistep nature of carcinogensis has been demonstrated for many human cancers the elucidation of individual steps involved in prostate cell transformation has proven more elusive. Only recently have investigators started to identify the oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes involved in prostate carcino gensis. This idea about the etiology as well as the risk factors involved with prostate cancer is important in trials for prevention and control of the disease.
Excellent pathological information is a basic requirement in dealing with prostate cancer. Prostate cancer can manifest in many histo-pathological patterns and also it can present in a latent form, clinically evident form or invasive form. Different staging and grading systems were discussed in that essay.
