Effect of Menopausal Women's Self Care Regarding Acupressure on Relieving Their Hot Flashes

Abstract
Menopausal hot flushes representing the most common, prevalent and discomforting symptom, where associated with insomnia, which can have a domino effect on the woman’s overall quality of life, which in turn can affect mood, impair concentration, and concomitant symptoms include palpitations, anxiety, irritability, and night sweats (Zhou, et.al, 2011).
Hot flashes were treated through many approaches such as hormonal replacement therapy but, with the increased knowledge of side effects and cost attributable to conventional treatment approaches as acupressure which is a healing and the most effective method for self-treatment by using the power and sensitivity of the human hand that deals with all the aspects of a person as a whole: body, emotions, mind, and spirit as one, that balances the vital life forces of the body (Zhou, et.al, 2011).
Health-care team including gynecologists and nurses have to realize that menopausal women are at increased risk for severe disease and complications during this years, so they are urged to play proactive role in the health promotion aspect of menopause self-care and enrich their own experience (Murray and Mckinney, 2010).
The present study aimed to investigate the effects of menopausal women's self-care regarding acupressure on relieving their hot flashes. To achieve the study objective an intervention study design has implemented at gynecological clinics of Ain Shams Maternity University Hospital.
A purposive sample of one hundred women were included in the study, those women were divided into two equal group(study and control)at the previously mentioned settings and selected under the following inclusion criteria: menopausal women aged from 45 to 55 years old, and free from any medical or gynecological disorders.
Data collection has been carried out throughout the period from beginning of November 2012 till the end of November 2013. It has been done through four tools (a structured interviewing questionnaire sheet, hot flashes-related daily
