NUTRITIONAL STUDIES ON FARM ANIMALS
Mohamed Abd El-All Mohamed Mahmoud;
Abstract
The present work was carried out at Noubaria Experimental Station for Animal Production, Animal Production Research Institute. Agriculture Research Center.
The main objective of this work is to find out the possibility of utilizing banana wastes in order to produce unconventional feed sources for ruminants,
In order to do so, three under ground trenches with the capacity of
15 tons (5 tons each) were used for making silage from banana wastes (BW). Rice straw was added to BW at the rate of l :2, while molasses was added at the rate of 3% and 5 kg of AD3E was added for the three
trenches. The first silage was without any additive, in the second one, urea
was added at the rate of 3%, while in the third silage inoculant was added at the rate of 10 g! 2L water I ton ofBW.
The criteria studied were as follow:
l) examine the quality of silage.
2) digestibility coefficients, nutritive values and nitrogen utilization of rations by sheep.
3) rumen fermentation parameters of the rations.
4) degradability of DM, OM and CP of the rations through the in situ
technique.
5) effect of feeding rations on the milk production by cows and its composition.
