CALIBRATION AND CONCENTRATION MEASUilEMENTS OF RADON GAS IN RADON GAS CHAMBER

Mahrnoud Abo-Eimagd Aly Rashwan;

Abstract

Radon i s the onl y gas member in the middle part of the
l ong radioactive seri es begin by the widely dish•ibuted element
2.\H U. Therefore, radon is found in all enviromnental atmospheres
with high emanation power and great tendency to migrate from its so urces. This give the radon problem its important. 222Rn has two facets; it posses a grave health hazards and it helps in mineral expl o ration, earthquake prediction, study of volcanic activities and sea rch for geothermal energy sources. Therefore
radon ma y be harmful or helpful.
Several techniques and methods are in u se for measuring radon and its daughters. Long term measurements in fotm of so lid state nucl ecu• track detector (SSNTD) is vety important to incorporate the effects of seasonal, weather and environmental lluctuati on of radon emanation and its migration which responsible for va ry ing the radon intensities. Therefore, be representative of the actual conditions existing in the area. CR-
39 has to become the state of-the-art h•ack detector for
e nvironme ntal rado n which used fo•r the measurements of the tim e-integrated rad on level without needing of delicate and so phisticated equipm ent and it is portable, inexpensive and greatl y co nveni ent in rugged and remote areas even without a vehi c ular access.
