Abstract


Aflatoxin is considered as toxic metabolite to the liver and has major role in the development of HCC mainly in liver cirrhosis. Aflatoxins are present in a wide range of food mainly in malstored crops as rice, wheat, maize and other crops when stored improperly.
To fulfill the aim of the work,this study was designedto evaluate the role of Aflatoxin B1 (M1) in hepatocellular carcinoma in post – HCV infected Egyptian patients.
This study was conducted in co-operation betweenTropical Medicine Department, Ain-Shams University, the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department at El Agouza Police Hospital and The National Hepatology and Tropical Medicine Research Institute (NHTMRI). The work was performed in-between February 2015 and September 2015.We performed this study on 50 adult Egyptian patients with proven chronic hepatitis C virus infection, Group I; 25 chronic HCV infectionwithhepatocellular carcinoma and Group II; 25 chronic HCV withouthepatocellular carcinoma, that are fulfilling the eligibility criteria.
