Abstract


Chronic alcohol consumption has been implicated as a causative factor in a variety of cardiovascular abnormalities in human such as cardiac fibrosis, coronary capillary disorders, subcellular aberrations, impairment of cardiac contractility, abnormal ventricular function and many others.
This work is designed to throw more light on the histological, morhometrical and histochemical changes following chronic ethanol administration on . the myocardium of female rats and their offspring.



MATERIAL AND METHODS

Forty-eight adult femal.e rats weighing 175-225 g and their offspring were used in this study and divided into tow maJor groups.
Control Group:

18 animals received no alcohol and were subdivided · into 3 equal subgroups. The first subgroup was sacrificed after 6 weeks: subgroup CA {Control adult rats} The other 2..,subgroups were allowed to get pregnant. Half of them were sacrificed with their offspring immediately after labour (i.e. after 9 weeks) subgroup
