Abstract

This study was carried out at Kahah Experimental Station of Vegetables Research Department. Agricultural Research Center, during the three seasons; 1993/1994 and 1994/1995 for the first trial and 1994/1995 and 1995/1996 for the second trail .

In the first trail, seed of onion (Allium cepa L.) cvs. Giza
20 and White Libson were sown in each season on October
10th. Plants samples were taken 60, 70, 80, 90, and 105 days after seed sowing. The results showed that plant fresh weight, length, leaves number/plant, bulb lenght and diameter increased as the advancement of plant age. Giza 20 cv. surpassed White Libson cv in the above mentioned characters. Bulbs of the 90 days old green onion plants reached 1-2 em which is the required bulb diameter for exportation, particularly for the Europian markets.
