SOME HISTOLOGICAL AND HISTOCHEMICAL STUDIES ON THE EFFECT OF GRISEOFULVIN ON THE LIVER OF ALBINO RAT

Amany Mohammed Ibrahim Moussa;

Abstract

Griseofulvin has been widely used in the treatment of different types of fungal infection (tinea) in man and animals . The aim of the present work was to study some histological and histochemical changes occurring in the liver following administration of griseofulvin.

Material and methods:
In the present work, 48 adult male albino rats were used. They were divided into two main groups:

1- The control group : which was subdivided into :

., - Negative control (included 8 rats) : for studying the normal histological and histochemical structure of the liver .

- Sham control (included 16 rats) : which were given distilled water daily via an oesophageal tube using the same doses and periods of experimental group.
• n- The experimental group: which was divided into two main groups:
1- Group A (included 12 rats) : was given griseofulvin orally (dissolved in distilled water) using an oesophageal tube in a mean therapeutic dose of 18 mg daily for different periods.
2- Group B (included 12 rats) : was given double the therapeutic

• dose of griseofulvin (36 mg daily) for different periods.
