Efficacy of Vitamin C vaginal Suppository in treatment of Bacterial Vaginosis (randomized-comparative study)

Abstract
This study aims to compare between Vitamin C vaginal suppository and Metronidazole vaginal suppository in the treatment of bacterial vaginosis.
This randomizedcomparative study was carried out at Ain Shams Maternity Hospital where 150 women were selected in this study for each case, written consent, a full history, general and local examinations were done and vaginal swab was taken to be examined under the ordinarymicroscope (magnification power 100).
The included 150 women, were positive for bacterial vaginosis and divided in to two groups (75 participants in each group):
Group (A): Received vitamin C (500mg) vaginal suppository daily (for 6 day at bed time).
Group (B): Received Metronidazole (500mg) vaginal suppository daily (for 6 day at bed time) after follow up the results of the study showed that cure of BV in the form of improvement of vaginal PH, improvement of vaginal discharge vitamin C(64.9%), matronidazole (78.6%), improvement of clue cell in vitamin C (81.3%) matronidazole(59.8%),decrease in number of patients with positive whiff tests in vitamin C (70.4%) in metronidzole (69.7%).
