SKIN ADHESIVE TAPE COMPARED WITH CONTINUOUS SUTURE IN PERINEAL SKIN REPAIR AFTER EPISIOTOMY Thesis

Lobna Ahmed Nabil Mohamed Mansour;

Abstract

Episiotomy still the most common surgical procedure performed by most obstetricians. 85% and more of women having a vaginal birth will suffer some perineal trauma, suffer from some perineal trauma, whether it is in the form of spontaneous tears or episiotomy, both will require closure at least in third of women.
Pain in the site of the episiotomy is not uncommon. Although women without episiotomies have perineal pain, those with episiotomies will often have pain that is more localized and lasts longer.
Suturing the perineum may optimize the meticulous closure, but also may induce reactivity and sometimes require removal, this add no help in reducing site pain.
The current study was performed at Ain Shams Maternity Hospital during the period between December 2015 and November 2016.
The aim of this work was to compare the patient pain after repair of episiotomy skin by adhesive tape versus polyglactin 910 in continuous suture technique. Second outcome of timing and wound site inflamations and pain during some daily activities also have been mesured.
