Diagnostic Laparoscopy Findings In Unexplained Infertile Women
Amira Abdellatif Abbas Hassan;
Abstract
It is generally accepted that diagnostic laparoscopy is the gold standard in diagnosing tubal pathology and other intra-abdominal causes of infertility.
Diagnostic laparoscopy, therefore, is frequently a standard procedure performed as the final test in the infertility work up in many clinics before the couple progresses to infertility treatment.
Some of the abnormalities responsible for infertility may only be diagnosed by laparoscopy. Laparoscopy is the definitive means for assessing abnormal pelvic anatomic relationships. The diagnosis of endometriosis by laparoscopy remains the gold standard. Laparoscopic evaluation allows a complete survey of the peritoneal surfaces, biopsy of suspicious lesions, and even treatment. No other diagnostic test can approach the utility of laparoscopy in the assessment of endometriosis.
The number of cases included in analysis in this study totaled 150 cases. The present study revealed that laparoscopic findings in unexplained infertile women reveals pelvic pathology in 74 cases (49.3%) while in 76 cases (50.7%) no pelvic pathology was found.
