Ameliorating role of salmon diet on water Disinfection by products on fertility of the Males albino rats

water is monitored but it is questionable whether such monitoring accurately indicate safety for human consumption, so the present work is designed to investigate harms of endocrine disrupting compound (EDC S ). Present in drinking water on fertility of male rats and role of salmon diet to relive such harms. Weaning male wister albino rats (21-28 days old) with average body weight (55-60gm) were used in the present study. Each was randomly divided into 5 groups, first group (weaning control) (n==20), second group (adult control) (n=20), third group (weaning tap water treated group( n= 40), fourth group adult tap water treated (n=20) and fifth group salmon diet treated group(n=20).At the end of the experimental period the results showed that serum levels of free testosterone, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) in weaning tap water treated group and in adult tap water treated group show decrease, but serum level of free estradiol (E2) in weaning and adult rats receiving tap water EDCs for two and five months increased significantly compared with purified water. Moreover, this study found significant decrease in caudal sperm count and rapid progressive motility but slow or sluggish motility increased significantly and immotility increased significantly in adult rats receiving tap water for five months compared with the purified water group. Also, Endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs) caused a marked increase in morphological abnormalities of sperms. Our histopathological study confirmed the biochemical data as the seminiferous tubules of treated rats contained numerous exfoliated degeneratied germ cells with reduced sperm density. Inaddition, the rounded shape of the tubules changed to become oval-like shape. These changes in the tubular shape resulted in an elongation of the tubules thus increasing the mean diameter of seminiferous tubules in comparison with those of adult control group , while, salmon diet returned this increase in free E2,FSH, LH to normal level .However, serum level of total E2, testes weight showed increase in rats which received tap water for two and five months also, salmon diet for three months induced significant increase in sperm count also decrease immotile sperm and showed slight increase in slow or sluggish progressive motility. In addition, salmon diet decreased some morphological abnormalities of sperms. In conclusion these result suggest that omega-3 in salmon diet has protective potential in ameliorating effect of EDCs in drinking water on fertility of male rats
