Abstract
Sam Shepar is among representatives of the main stream of American dramatic tradition. He was raised in an alcoholic home. Alcohol was, by Shepard's time, an intrinsic element in the lives of American youth and a powerful expressions of their moods and fears. He continued his association with the alcohol motif as a way of creating meaning and coherence throughout the body of his work.
