Abstract
ABSTRACT
Aim: This study aimed to improve nurses' performance to meet satisfaction of patients undergoing breast cancer surgery. Design: A quasi-experimental research design was used. Sample: A convenience sample composed of all the available nurses (40) working at surgical wards in El-Demerdash Hospital and A purposive sample of (50) Women undergoing breast cancer surgery. Setting: Data were collected from the surgical departments in El-Demerdash Hospital, affiliated to Ain Shams University Hospitals. Four tools were used for data collection (I) Self administered questionnaire (pre/post and follow-up tests), which included (a) demographic characteristics, (b) nurses` knowledge assessment sheet, (2) An observational checklist, (3) Nurses' attitude assessment sheet (4) Patients' satisfaction with nursing care Scale. Results: This study revealed a statistically significant improvement post educational guidelines regarding studied nurse's knowledge, practice, and attitude. Half of the studied patients were highly satisfied with nursing care. Moreover, a statistically significant positive relation between nurses' performance and total patients' satisfaction after guidelines interventions was indicated. Conclusion: It can be concluded that, educational guidelines had a positive effect on nurses' performance to meet satisfaction of patients undergoing breast cancer surgery. Recommendation: The study recommended that, continuing nursing education at the workplace can be of additional benefit. Further research is needed to study in-depth the parameters relevant to patients’ satisfaction with nursing care.
