Abstract
the present study was carried out on female albino rats weighing 130-200 gm ,through four experimental groups (two non-pregnant and two pregnant rat groups ) and two control groups . Experimental animals were given daily oral dose levels of 1.34 mg/kg b.w (therapeutic dose ) and 2.67 mg/kg b.w. ( over dose ) of ketoprofen for an experimental period of 8 weeks for non pregnant groups and 21 days for pregnant ones , while the control groups were given 1 ml isotonic saline . the experimental results were compered weekly with those of the control groups for non-pregnant rats and after 21 days for the pregnant ones . Histological changes were in the form of stromal oedema , dilated and congested blood vessels and mild stromal hyperplasia in ovaries of rats received the low dose of ketoprofen . More severe lesions were apparent in ovary sections of non-pregnant rats treated with the higher dose of ketoprofen as designated by decreased number of follicles, congestion of blood vessels , hyperplasia of the stromal cells and inflammatory foci through the ovarian tissue . on the other hand , over sections of pregnant rats administered low and high doses of ketoprofen showed mild inflammatory cellular infiltatuon around the congested blood vessels , degenerationof the stromal cells and disturbance in maturation of the follicles . Histochemical staining of some biological substances showed dose and time dependent in crease in polysacchariedes . Marked attenuation in distribution of the total protein content of the ovarian tissue was also recorded in all experimental groups .
