Preventive Health Program for Genitourinary Tract Infections among Female Adolescence Students by Using Epidemiological Model

Abstract


Background: Genitourinary tract infections so sensitive problem especially for girls due to its physical and psychological impact on the girl in current and future case but frequent recurrent infections in adolescents is sometimes lead to serious complication. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of preventive health program of genitourinary tract infections for female adolescence students by using the epidemiological model Design: A quasi-experimental study was conducted at two governmental preparatory female schools representing in a slum area. Sample: Purposive sample involved 152 females were chosen randomly. Tools: Three tools were used to collect data. The self-administrated questionnaire, menstruation attitude scale and observational checklist for assessing sanitary school environment. Results: The study revealed that the mean age of the female adolescents’ students was 15.0 ± 0.71, 52.6 % had urinary tract infection and 32.5% out of 80 females had recurrent urinary infections twice through the year. The Higher satisfactory level of knowledge and self–reported practices related to genitourinary tract infections and prevention in post/ follow-up test, there was a highly statistically significant relation between total knowledge and practices of female adolescent students regarding GUTI in Post-test. Also, Represented that there was a statistically significant difference regarding attitude of female adolescent students' misconception toward menstruation, in pre, post and follow-up program implementation Conclusion: Application of epidemiological model & intervention program improved knowledge and hygienic practices of female adolescent students regarding genitourinary tract infections, and improved their misconception toward menstruation, also, there was a highly statistically significant relation between total knowledge and practices of female adolescent students regarding genitourinary tract infection in Post-test at (P<0.001). Recommendations: The study recommended an educational program should be distributed for female schools students’ pre-adolescent about menstruation and prevention of genitourinary tract infections.
