Efficient adsorption of a cationic dye by extracted chitosan from shrimp shell

Abdel Messih, Michel;

Abstract

The removal of crystal violet (CV) basic dye from its aqueous solution was investigated using chitosan that is prepared from shrimp processing waste (shell). The reaction parameters that are affecting the dye uptake involving adsorbent dose, stirring rate, adsorbate concentration, pH value, time and temperature were studied for the right choose of the effective factors of the adsorption technique. Many kinds of the adsorption isotherm equations were carried out. It was found to fit better using Langmuir isotherm over than freundlish isotherm. The process of adsorption kinetics was investigated using various models to show the rate determining step. Thermodynamic parameters were also discussed like (∆G0), (∆S0) and (∆H0).
