Abstract

The hydration of mixtures of by-pass dust and slag in different mixing ratios were studied. The by-pass dust was used in the original state and after washing with water. The hydration was investigated using pastes with a water/solids ratio of 0.30. The pastes hardened in moist air and under water, and were tested for compressive strength, hydration kinetics and X-ray diffraction analysis after different hydration times of between 2 hours and 90 days. The results indicate that dust-slag mixtures between 20/80 and 30/70 give adequate strengths. The dust in the original state had a higher hydraulic reactivity than the washed dust, especially during the early stages of hydration.
